The Døds Diving League (DDL), the global governing body for the sport of Døds freestyle diving, has announced that the city of Charlotteville, in Trinidad and Tobago, will host the opening event of the 2026 World Tour this May 23rd, launching the new season in one of the sport’s most iconic destinations.
Following a landmark World Championship in 2025, Tobago has established itself as a premier host location, offering a dramatic natural setting in Charlotteville overlooking Pirate’s Bay. The world’s best athletes will travel to Tobago to compete for crucial World Tour points and the opportunity to qualify for the DDL World Championship at the end of the season.
The competition features 30 to 40 athletes competing in teams across four rounds, progressing from qualification to knockout stages (20, 10, and 5 athletes in the final). Men and women compete in the same category. Dives are performed from 33–43 feet platforms and judged on power, technical execution, style, landing, and overall impression.
This year, the Tobago World Tour event will be supported by a selection of top-notch brands, including the likes of Monster Energy, Goya Tequila, DJI and Kilroy. Local authorities, including the House of Assembly of Tobago, Main Ridge and TobaGo Beyond, will also be present in this extraordinary occasion.
The event will be broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the Døds Diving League:
Døds Academy courses will be offered to both locals and visitors in the days leading up to the event, giving participants a unique opportunity to learn døds diving from some of the best athletes in the world. The sessions will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Saturday morning, a local qualification event will be held, where the Døds Diving League (DDL) will select standout divers to earn a place in the Døds World Tour competition later in the day.
“With its unique landscape, energy and proven track record, Tobago is the perfect place to open the World Tour,” said Paul Rigault, President of DDL.
“This event not only showcases our breathtaking natural assets but also creates meaningful opportunities for local athletes and communities to engage on a global stage,” said Zorisha Hackett, Tobago Tourism Secretary.
